The world of aviation is always changing and can be highly engrossing, and this page reviews some of the latest industry news. By no means is it a definitive collection of aviation news stories, but rather a round-up of some of the stories that interest me most. Aviation news updates are now discontinued, though could this photo of Airbus A320 TC-TCC be a topical shot of one KTHY Cyprus Turkish Airlines' last ever services?

United eyeing up an order for 150 aircraft

United is reportedly in discussions with both Boeing and Airbus for a $10 billion order for up to 150 new aircraft. The new frames would replace much of United's long-haul fleet, as well as its 757s.

Ryanair reports its first annual loss

Ryanair has announced its first annual loss, of €169 million, for the year to 31st March 2009. Although it says fuel prices were a major factor, a writedown of its Aer Lingus stake cost it €222.5 million.

Air Asia X to order Airbus A350s

Reports suggest that Air Asia X will almost certainly place an order for Airbus A350s at the Paris Air Show. The aircraft will replace its long-range A340s, leaving it with a fleet of A330s and A350s.

Malev to pull aircraft and routes for coming winter season

Malev has revealed it will retire its fleet of five Fokker 70s and ground three Boeing 737s over the coming winter. It will also suspend flights to Venice, Podgorica, Ljubljana, Dublin and Geneva.

VLM brand to be replaced by CityJet

It was announced yesterday that the VLM brand will disappear during early 2010 as it is integrated with its Air France-KLM partner, CityJet. VLM will, however, continue to operate on its own AOC.

Air Asia reports $58m first quarter profit

The Malaysian low-cost carrier's first quarter profit grew 25% on that for last year, with passenger traffic growing 21% to 3.1 million. Average ancillary spend per passenger increased by 85%.

BA pulls JFK but adds new routes from Gatwick

Services from Gatwick to New York JFK will end on 25th October, though the winter season will see new routes from Sussex to the Maldives, Sharm El Sheikh, Montego Bay and Punta Cana.

British Airways wipes £13m off value of Flybe stake

The low-cost carrier has expressed its disappointment at British Airways' move to devalue its 15% stake in Flybe by around 25%. BA now estimates its holding in Flybe to be worth £30 million.
