Comment / Descending into the sunset with the Diamond Hangar and earthworks in the background.

Comment / With a low pressure system currently flirting with the east coast of the UK, there was plenty of wing vortex action at Stansted this evening. By far the best 'performer' was this FedEx MD-11 which produced a trail from a good 6 or 7 miles out. N577FE is an ex. Mandarin aircraft registered B-18172.

Comment / Seen taxiing towards the terminal having just landed on runway 24 from London Heathrow.

Comment / Two Boeing 767s in this one - N828MH pushes back for her flight back to New York JFK as OY-SRK of Star Air sits parked up in the distance, waiting for freighter duties later in the day.

Comment / No prizes for guessing that EI-DKG is an ex. Air Jamaica machine, 6Y-JMG to be precise.

Comment / This A320 was on the ground for the duration of my time at Shannon, and is seen here being towed to a remote stand on one of the airfield's disused runways. Previously 6Y-JMF of Air Jamaica.

Comment / Shannon handles a fair amount of transatlantic flights, primarily as a result of long standing bilateral agreements aimed at holding on to traffic at the airport, which would otherwise prefer to route straight to and from Dublin. As a result, at present 50% of services between the USA and Ireland must stopover at Shannon, although motions are in place to relax this arrangement over the next two years.

Comment / RA-85637 emerges from the heat haze as a Condor Boeing 757 slows down on runway 23L.

Comment / Taxiing for departure during a brief cloudy spell on what was otherwise a very bright day!
